Mongolian Tourist Organizations to Receive "Star" Ratings
As part of the "Year of Visiting Mongolia" program (2023–2028), aimed at attracting up to one million tourists by 2026, new rules have been developed that introduce a "Star" system for evaluating tourist services.
These rules clarify classification standards for hotel services and other tourist services in accordance with the Tourism Law. The main goal is to improve the quality and accessibility of services provided, in line with international standards, as well as to create conditions for obtaining government subsidies and attracting foreign investments in this sector.
According to government representatives, the process of developing the rules took into account the opinions of stakeholders: six round tables were held with participants from the tourism business, and the project was posted on the official website of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth for public discussion.
According to the updated rules, it is now possible to establish categories for a broader range of tourist activities, including resorts, hotels, and complexes, while previous versions of the rules mainly concerned only high-class hotels. The government is confident that the new rating system will improve service quality and enhance the competitiveness of the tourism industry by 2026.
