Somon Zamin-Uud Will Become a City

The Prime Minister of Mongolia, Gombojavyn Zandanshatar, conducted a working trip to the Zamiin-Uud soum, where he familiarized himself with the passenger and transport complex at the Zamiin-Uud checkpoint.

During his visit, Zandanshatar examined the operations of the checkpoint as well as the process of cargo transportation across the border.

With the launch of the new complex in 2023, the capacity of the Zamiin-Uud checkpoint has increased threefold. Previously, 6,000 to 8,000 passengers crossed into the country daily, and now this figure has risen to 8,000 to 12,000.

The Prime Minister emphasized in his speech that until the transition to the electronic system is 100% complete, control and inspection must be strengthened to minimize risks associated with the human factor. He also noted the importance of regular rotation of border guards and customs officers, pointing out that currently only five people are working in shifts in the cargo department of the checkpoint, which is clearly insufficient. It is necessary to train and involve at least 15 to 20 employees.

The Zamiin-Uud checkpoint processes over 70% of Mongolia's cargo turnover. The population of the region is steadily growing, and active construction is underway. Despite plans to transform the checkpoint into a major trade and logistics center, the Prime Minister expressed concern about the slow pace of work and stated his intention to pay special attention to this issue.

To expedite the implementation of the project, he instructed the leadership of the Zamiin-Uud soum to complete all necessary preparatory work to obtain urban status by June 1. "The Zamiin-Uud soum has enormous potential. However, due to a lack of organization, it is impossible to fully utilize its capabilities. We need to establish coordinated work, put things in order, and accelerate the development of the region," the Prime Minister noted.

About 25,000 people live in the Zamiin-Uud soum, of which 5,000 to 8,000 are temporary residents. The soum does not receive subsidies from the budget; rather, it generates its own income. Last year, the budget of the soum received 18.7 billion tugriks.
