U.S. President Donald Trump announced the introduction of a 25% tariff on countries doing business with Iran.
“Starting today, all nations engaging in trade with the Islamic Republic of Iran will face a 25% tariff on all their business operations with the United States,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.
According to data presented by Bloomberg, among Iran's main trading partners are India, Turkey, and China.
Earlier, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt stated that Trump is considering various options for action against Iran due to the brutal suppression of protests, including the possibility of airstrikes; however, “the initial choice” remains diplomacy.
Protests in Iran began on December 28 against the backdrop of a strike by entrepreneurs in Tehran, triggered by the devaluation of the national currency and rising prices. According to the human rights organization HRA, the number of fatalities is at least 544 people.
