Trump imposed 25% tariffs on countries doing business with Iran

Starting January 12, according to President Donald Trump's announcement on his social media platform Truth Social, all countries that engage in trade with Iran will be required to pay a 25% tariff on all commercial transactions with the United States. "This decree is final and not subject to appeal," he noted in his message.

According to data from Bloomberg, among Iran's main trading partners are countries such as India, China, and Turkey.

Trump also emphasized that the White House and U.S. military are considering various options regarding Iran to support the protesters. "The military is studying the situation, and we are considering very serious measures," he added, mentioning ties with the Iranian opposition. On January 11, Trump reported that the Iranian leadership had approached him with a proposal for negotiations.

As of the evening of January 12, the human rights organization Iran Human Rights (IHR) reports at least 648 fatalities resulting from the suppression of protests in Iran, among which are nine minors.

Mass protests against the Iranian government began on December 28, 2025. Trump stated on January 2 on his Truth Social account that the U.S. would take action if security forces began shooting at peaceful demonstrators.
