The competitions took place from February 25 to March 1 in the capital of the country, Tirana.
For Aiperi Medet kyzy, this was her first tournament in 2023.
The athlete competed in the 76 kg category and won a gold medal.
On her way to the final, the Kyrgyzstani wrestler achieved three early victories over opponents from Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, and Turkey.
In the decisive match, she was set to face Genesis Reasco Valdez, the world champion from Ecuador.
These two athletes had already met in the ring less than six months ago at the World Championship final in Croatia, where Valdez won and prevented Medet kyzy from becoming the champion.
However, in Tirana, Aiperi was able to take revenge, defeating her opponent with a score of 5:4.
UWW ultimately recognized Aiperi Medet kyzy as the best female wrestler of February.
Also among the top wrestlers were Sujit Kalkal from India (freestyle wrestling) and Koto Gomi from Japan (Greco-Roman wrestling).
