Erlan Sherov's Gold in Slovenia Became Historic for Kyrgyzstan

An athlete from Kyrgyzstan, Erlan Sherov, became the champion of one of the stages of the European Judo Cup, which took place on February 14-15 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Sherov, competing in the under 90 kg category, where 48 athletes participated, received the top seed and began his journey from the round of 1/16 finals.

During the tournament stage, the Kyrgyzstani athlete achieved three consecutive victories over competitors from Belgium, Lithuania, and Egypt, which advanced him to the final.

In the decisive match for gold, Erlan confidently defeated David Karapetyan, the 2020 European Youth Champion from Russia, by ippon.

Thus, this gold medal became the first in the history of Kyrgyzstan at the European Cup.
