Georgy Shevchenko will hold a special place in the history of Kyrgyz football as one of the brightest players of the legendary team "Alga" during its peak period. He joined "Alga" in 1965 at the invitation of head coach Nikolai Samarin and played for the club until 1971, when the team achieved significant success.
As a defender, he stood out for his strategic thinking and ability to anticipate the opponent's actions, as well as his precision in ball recovery. Due to his coolness and intuition, he was nicknamed "Richard Sorge," embodying wisdom and insight. Georgy's reliable play repeatedly became the foundation for "Alga's" victories.
In his first match for "Alga," he immediately won the love of the fans and the respect of his teammates. The team achieved a convincing victory over "Pahktakor" with a score of 4:1, and Georgy also scored a goal.
The 1967 season was special for the club, as "Alga" played spectacular and attacking football, falling just short of promotion to the top league. By the end of that season, Georgy Shevchenko and his comrades were awarded the title of Masters of Sports of the USSR.
In 1971, Georgy ended his career in professional football but remained in the sport as a coach. Working with young footballers born in 1958, he demonstrated his teaching abilities and inspired his students to succeed. Just two years later, his team secured third place in the USSR championship among senior youth in Kyiv, competing against clubs such as CSKA, "Dynamo" (Kyiv), "Karpaty," and "Zarya."
Even after retiring from his professional career, Georgy remained devoted to football. He continued to play for the veterans' national team of Kyrgyzstan until the age of 70, representing the country in matches in Almaty and Moscow, stepping onto the field each time with confidence, calculation, and nobility.
