The current festival marks the 90th anniversary of Algimantas Vidugiris, an outstanding filmmaker.

From April 21, Bishkek will host the XIV International Short Film Festival, featuring works from CIS countries, the Baltics, and Georgia.

This year, the event is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Algimantas Vidugiris — a renowned director, screenwriter, and cinematographer who has been honored with the title of People's Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Vidugiris is one of the most significant figures in Kyrgyz cinema. His contribution to the development of documentary and auteur cinema both in the country and beyond its borders is invaluable. Throughout his career, he has directed numerous films that have received international acclaim and has won seven Grand Prix awards at prestigious film festivals.

The festival held in honor of Vidugiris also coincides with the 85th anniversary of Kyrgyz cinema. The organizers emphasize that his name embodies an entire era and demonstrates continuity between generations in national cinematography.

The festival has become an important venue for professional communication and cultural exchange over the years. This year, over 900 applications from directors from various countries have been submitted for participation.

The festival program includes two competitive categories: international and national. The screenings will showcase feature films, documentaries, animations, and experimental films.

Fourteen works from different countries have been selected for the international competition, while the national program will present the 15 best short films by Kyrgyz authors.

The organizers invite everyone to join the festival, which traditionally opens up new talents and promotes the development of cinema in the region.
