Former mayor of Osh, Jenishbek Toktorbaev, is criticized for distributing apartments

Some received housing without payment, while others will have to pay significant sums.

The housing situation in Osh has become a topic of discussion in Kyrgyzstan's social networks.

As a result of street expansions and building demolitions, many families have been forced to leave their homes. In response, local authorities offered new apartments, but it soon became clear that the relocated residents would need to pay the difference for the housing area at a rate of $950 per square meter. Because of this, many city residents are facing debts ranging from 1 to 3 million soms, which they now need to repay. The local mortgage committee offers installment plans for these amounts for up to 10 years.

The city's vice-mayor, Shumkarbek Paiziev, added that according to current regulations, free housing transfers are not provided for either residents from demolition zones or other categories of citizens.

Meanwhile, residents of Kyrgyzstan recalled that as mayor, Jenishbek Toktorbaev distributed apartments without payment. It is estimated that about 100 apartments were issued "without legal grounds" and in violation of existing municipal mortgage regulations, as many citizens believe.

According to the Mortgage and Credit Agency, there are currently more than 1,000 people in line for housing in Osh.
