Ebru Returns to Its Homeland
From March 31 to April 3, 2026, the Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts named after Gapar Aitiev will host an exhibition of ebru art, organized by the "Ebristan" foundation with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Bishkek.
This ancient art, deeply rooted in the culture connecting Central Asia and Anatolia, is returning to its origins. Ebru, which developed in Turkey and gained international recognition, will be presented to the audience of Kyrgyzstan.
The opening of the exhibition will feature a special guest — Hikmet Barutçugil, a recognized master of ebru and holder of the UNESCO title "Living Human Treasure." His unique methods and modern interpretations of the art have made him famous on the world stage.
The exhibition will also feature Kyrgyz artist Mukhlisa Imamova, a student of Hikmet, who actively promotes ebru in Kyrgyzstan through her project "Ebru House Ebristan Bishkek." In her works, she interprets the cultural symbols of the country using this technique.
Live demonstrations by masters are planned as part of the exhibition, as well as the creation of flags of Turkey and Kyrgyzstan and the Ayghul flower, symbolizing the Batken region. Visitors will not only be able to observe the process but also delve into the study of this unique art.
This event will serve as a vivid example of cultural rapprochement between the two countries, uniting the heritage of the past with modern aesthetic approaches.
Everyone is invited to the opening ceremony of the exhibition, which will take place on March 31, 2026, at 15:00 at the Gapar Aitiev Museum.
