MoveGreen: In Bishkek and Osh, air pollution is 11-15 times above the norm
The public organization MoveGreen, which conducts independent air quality monitoring, has released its annual analytical report covering the period from December 2024 to November 2025.
This document presents a detailed analysis of PM2.5 fine particulate matter levels in Bishkek and Osh, as well as recommendations for improving the environmental situation.
The data analysis showed that air pollution has a pronounced seasonal character, significantly intensifying during the winter heating period. In Bishkek, about 120 days were recorded when levels exceeded permissible norms, with the maximum value recorded on December 24, 2024 — more than 11 times higher than the norm. In Osh, the situation is even worse: exceedances were observed for 159 days, and the annual average concentration was about 74 µg/m³, which is nearly 5 times higher than government standards and 15 times higher than World Health Organization norms.
The study also revealed that the walls of buildings cannot guarantee protection from street smog during periods of high concentration. Inside buildings, there were 58 days with pollution levels above the norm.
As measures to improve the situation, MoveGreen suggests developing green energy, implementing clean public transport, greening cities, and expanding the monitoring system to ensure open access to data.
