At the meeting attended by 73 deputies, all unanimously supported the sole candidate.
The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan has agreed to relieve Melis Turganbaev of his duties as Chairman of the National Bank, from which he is dismissed after nearly two years of service, starting June 26, 2024.
On the same day, a new chairman was approved — Almaz Baketaev.
Almaz Baketaev, born on January 20, 1971, in Talas, received higher education at the Polytechnic University and the Kyrgyz National University in the field of "finance and credit".
He began his career in 1993, working in the tax authorities first in the Talas region and then in the Sverdlovsk district of Bishkek. Over the years, Baketaev held various positions in the Ministry of Finance, including internal audit and treasury.
Later, he worked in the Chui regional and Bishkek city treasuries. In 2010, he served as the deputy head of the Lenin district administration in Bishkek.
From 2010 to 2018, Baketaev held leadership positions in the Ministry of Finance, including serving as Deputy Minister. After that, he became the First Deputy Mayor of the capital, and in 2021, he was appointed First Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance.
Since 2021, he has held the position of Minister of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic.
