According to Olga Yamillova, a candidate of medical sciences, a heavy dinner taken shortly before sleep can negatively affect health. She told RIA Novosti that such a habit can lead to digestive problems and even contribute to weight gain.

Dr. Yamillova noted that overeating before bed creates additional stress for the gastrointestinal tract. This can increase the risk of heartburn and reflux, when stomach contents enter the esophagus.

Moreover, a late and heavy dinner can worsen sleep quality, which in turn can lead to morning fatigue and swelling.

The specialist recommends having light meals 2.5-3 hours before bedtime to avoid negative consequences.
