Bishkek Residents Complained to European Experts About the Elimination of Trolleybuses
According to information from the "BishkekSmog" group, various public organizations participated in the discussion: eco-activists, pensioners, parents with small children, former employees of the trolleybus management, and members of the Association of People with Disabilities.
Meeting participants detailed to the commission the consequences of closing trolleybus routes for the residents of the capital.
It is worth noting that from 2014 to 2018, Bishkek acquired 131 new trolleybuses with the support of a $23.5 million loan from the EBRD, which also included the modernization of the contact network. In 2024, the trolleybuses were taken out of operation. The initiative group of residents claims that the transfer of municipal property occurred without coordination with the bank and without considering the opinions of the population.
The EBRD IAP takes into account the complaints of citizens and organizations if the bank's projects have negative consequences for people's lives or violate environmental and social standards.
To peacefully resolve the conflict, the residents of the capital have united with several human rights and environmental organizations, such as "BishkekSmog," BankWatch, and the "Bir Duyuno Kyrgyzstan" movement.
