In Kyrgyzstan, it is planned to sow 1 million 250 thousand hectares. Of this area, 818 thousand hectares are designated for irrigation, while 432 thousand hectares are for rainfed agriculture, as reported by the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry.
Currently, active sowing work is taking place in the southern regions of the country, such as Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken, as well as in the Chui Valley. At the same time, sowing has not yet begun in the Talas, Issyk-Kul, and Naryn regions.
As of now, the following has already been sown in the republic:
- spring cereals — 32.6 thousand hectares;
- wheat — 11.4 thousand hectares;
- barley — 13.5 thousand hectares;
- potatoes — 2.4 thousand hectares;
- vegetables — 5 hectares.
In 2025, the total sown area will amount to 1 million 245.6 thousand hectares, which is 0.1 percent less compared to last year. Agriculture is facing serious challenges: dry spring and summer months, as well as a lack of irrigation water, are leading to a decrease in grain yields. This particularly affects the Chui, Talas, and Batken regions.
