The National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic provides data indicating that in 2009, there were 66 music schools operating in the country. The highest number was reached in 2011 and 2013 — 68 institutions each year. However, after that, the number of schools began to gradually decline, and by 2024, there were only 39 music schools left in the republic.
The Chuy region traditionally leads in the number of music schools, with 10 institutions operating there in 2024. It is followed by the Jalal-Abad region with 8 schools, the Osh region with 7, the Batken and Issyk-Kul regions with 4 each, the Talas region with 3, and the Naryn region with 1 music school. The cities of Bishkek and Osh also each have one music school functioning.
The situation with the number of students is also deteriorating. If in 2009, there were 9,130 children studying in music schools, the highest number was recorded in 2013 — 10,266 students. After that, the number of students began to gradually decrease, and by 2024, it amounted to 5,197 people.
By region, the most students are studying in the Chuy region — 1,249 children. Next are the Jalal-Abad region with 884 students and the Osh region with 718. In Bishkek, the number of students is 770, in the Issyk-Kul region — 349, in the Batken region — 418, in the Talas region — 333, and in the Naryn region — 125 students.
Thus, the analysis of the statistics confirms that the network of children's music schools and the number of students in them continue to decline in recent years, despite the interest in music education in some regions of the country.
