Nearly 250 tablets handed over by UNICEF to the healthcare system of Kyrgyzstan

At a meeting at the Ministry of Health, which took place between the head of the department, Damir Osmonov, and the UNICEF representative in Kyrgyzstan, Samman Jung Tapa, important aspects of cooperation were discussed.

According to the press center of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, the main topics of conversation concerned maternal and child health, improving primary healthcare, vaccination issues, and the implementation of digital technologies in the healthcare system.

Minister Osmonov emphasized that significant progress has been made thanks to joint efforts: in recent decades, child mortality in Kyrgyzstan has decreased by 73%. Additionally, the results of a comprehensive study conducted in 2023 with the support of UNICEF showed a reduction in mortality for children under five from 20 to 16.5 per 1,000 live births over the past five years.

The minister noted the importance of UNICEF's contribution to improving primary healthcare, supporting services for pregnant women, newborns, children, and adolescents, as well as developing modern healthcare standards.

Damir Osmonov also highlighted UNICEF's role in the area of pharmaceutical supply, reporting on the start of medication procurement through this organization and plans for further expansion in this direction.

During the meeting, issues related to strengthening the immunization system were also raised, including joint efforts to increase vaccination coverage and develop national vaccine management.

Particular attention was given to the development of telemedicine through the Telemed.kg platform, which will help provide access to medical consultations for residents of remote and hard-to-reach areas.

As part of the digitalization of primary healthcare, UNICEF has provided 247 tablets that will be used by healthcare workers for remote consultations and to improve access to medical care.

In conclusion, Minister Osmonov noted that further cooperation with UNICEF will contribute to strengthening the healthcare system and improving the health of children and families in Kyrgyzstan.
