UNICEF handed over 247 tablets to the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic
On March 10, 2026, a meeting took place at the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic between Minister Damir Osmonov and Samman Jung Tapa, the UNICEF representative in the country. This information was announced by the press service of the Ministry of Health.
During the discussion, the participants addressed important aspects of cooperation, including maternal and child health protection, improving primary healthcare, immunization issues, and the implementation of digital technologies in healthcare.
Minister Osmonov thanked UNICEF for their long-term support and reliable partnership, which has contributed to improving child health. He noted that joint efforts have led to a 73% reduction in child mortality in Kyrgyzstan over the past decades. According to the Comprehensive Multi-Indicator Survey conducted in 2023 with the help of partners, including UNICEF, the under-five mortality rate decreased from 20 to 16.5 per 1,000 live births over the past five years.
Damir Osmonov emphasized the significance of UNICEF's contribution to the development of primary healthcare, support for services for pregnant women, newborns, and adolescents, as well as the establishment of modern healthcare standards.
The Minister also highlighted UNICEF's support in the area of pharmaceutical provision, emphasizing that the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic has already begun purchasing medications through UNICEF and plans to significantly expand this direction.
Additionally, the participants discussed issues related to improving the immunization system, including joint efforts to increase vaccination coverage and the development of a national vaccine management system.
Special attention was given to the development of telemedicine through the Telemed.kg platform, which will improve access to medical consultations, especially in remote regions.
As part of the support for digitalization in primary healthcare, UNICEF provided 247 tablets that will be used by healthcare workers for remote consultations and to enhance the accessibility of medical assistance.
The Minister emphasized that further cooperation with UNICEF will strengthen the healthcare system and improve the health of children and families in Kyrgyzstan.
The parties confirmed their readiness to continue joint work in the field of primary healthcare, expanding immunization programs, implementing digital solutions, and increasing the accessibility of medical services.
