Hitting does not mean love: a reminder of women's rights in Bishkek

The issue of violence against women continues to be a serious problem in the country

A rally dedicated to women's rights was held in Bishkek on the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8, as reported by the event organizers.

In the capital of Kyrgyzstan, marches are traditionally held, but this year the authorities only permitted the event in the M. Gorky Park. About one hundred activists and concerned citizens gathered for this event to address women's rights issues.

Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Elvira Surabaldiyeva previously expressed her support for the rally but faced negative reactions on social media.

It should be noted that the problem of violence against women and children in Kyrgyzstan remains unresolved. Even measures such as tightening criminal and administrative penalties, establishing helplines, and implementing surveillance systems do not lead to significant changes.
