The number of buyers at the Karabalta flea market has significantly decreased — sellers explain the reasons.

Local residents report that after the closure of the livestock market in early February and its relocation to another place, the number of visitors to the "flea market" has halved. Additionally, the number of sellers has also decreased, as noted by city dwellers.

Previously, the livestock market was located in close proximity to the "bazaar," allowing sellers from Sokuluk, Belovodsk, and Bishkek to come there on Sundays. This was advantageous, as many villagers returned with money from the market and stopped by the "bazaar." However, now the territory of the "bazaar" is only half full.
Turmush previously reported that at the livestock market "Zhiyil" in the village of Bekitai, which is 15 km from the city of Karabalta, the number of animals sold has decreased.

According to information received on February 15, visitors to the new livestock market noted a significant reduction in the number of agricultural animals. If last week, according to data from the district agricultural administration, about 450 head of cattle, 220 horses, and around 750 sheep and goats were brought to the market, this time the total number decreased by approximately 30%.

Among livestock breeders, there are several assumptions regarding the reasons for such a decline.

Firstly, many are expecting an increase in purchase prices. After the adjustment of meat prices, the price per kilogram rose from 680 to 740 soms, which makes farmers hope for an increase in wholesale prices and postpone the sale of livestock.

Secondly, competition from other markets also plays a role. Some farmers prefer to take their livestock to the market in the village of Sokuluk, which is considered larger and more developed.

The third reason is related to increased transportation costs. Sellers note that the cost of freight transportation has risen. Previously, delivering livestock to the old market cost about 500 soms, but now the price to the new market is 1500 soms. For the same amount, animals can be delivered to the Sokuluk district.

The cost of travel for buyers has also increased. If previously one could get to the old market by minibus for 25 soms, now the fare is 100 soms per person. Taxi services have also increased — instead of 300 soms, private drivers now charge up to 1000 soms.

New rules have also been implemented at the market. According to the law "On Veterinary Medicine," animal owners are required to have veterinary accompanying documents when transporting and selling their animals. Without a veterinary certificate, animals are not allowed into the market.

Additionally, changes have been made to the payment procedure for the trading fee at the new market. Now the fee is collected upon exit, which helps avoid congestion at the entrance and is most often paid by the buyer.

This change has resolved the issue where sellers tried to sell sheep and goats right at the entrance to avoid paying the fee. Now entry to the market is free, and payment is made upon exit.
