The idea of celebrating March 5 as the Day of the Ak Kalpak first emerged in 2011 when the initiative group "Ak Kalpak" was created.

This initiative was supported by the population, and since then, patriots of Kyrgyzstan have begun to wear ak kalpaks. Subsequently, the proposal received approval from the Jogorku Kenesh, and on June 29, 2016, a resolution was signed, officially establishing March 5 as the Day of the Ak Kalpak.

The Day of the Ak Kalpak is celebrated annually in Kyrgyzstan on March 5 in honor of the national headdress. This event was established by a resolution of the Jogorku Kenesh, aimed at preserving and respecting the significance of this headdress, supporting national traditions, and awakening pride in Kyrgyz culture. Unofficially, the holiday began to be celebrated back in 2011.
