In the Batken region, a project aimed at combating water scarcity has been completed, resulting in the construction of 7 artificial glaciers.
According to the press service of the presidential envoy in the region, the glaciers are located in villages such as Gaz, Sogment, Bulak-Bashy, Kainy, Aibiyke, Kok-Tash, and Sumbula.
During a meeting with an international delegation, which included the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Osh, Roman Svistin, and representatives from FAO and OSCE, local authorities led by Azizbek Adylbekov discussed the implementation of sustainable climate practices, water resource management, and improvements to irrigation systems. As a result of the meeting, it was decided to expand the experience of creating glaciers to other areas of the region.
Delegates also visited the Aina-Tash gorge in the village of Sumbula, where they learned about the operation of one of the glaciers and assessed water reserves. The use of artificial glacier technology allows for the accumulation of water during the winter period, ensuring irrigation of fields during the dry spring and summer months.
As a result of the winter, more than 1.5 million cubic meters of water were accumulated in the region's glaciers.
This project, implemented with the help of international partners, contributes to providing farmers with stable irrigation and supports economic development in the context of climate change.
