As part of the capsule-laying event held in Bishkek, plans were announced for the creation of a new cultural center on the site of the "Chatyr-Kul" cinema. The construction is expected to be completed by September of this year, according to the local administration.
Present at the ceremony were Bishkek Mayor Aibek Junushaliev, Minister of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan Mirbek Mambetaliev, as well as residents of the surrounding areas.
As the mayor noted, no residential building will be constructed on this site. "We are building a modern cultural center that will be just as important as the former 'Chatyr-Kul'. With adherence to all construction norms and schedules, the opening of the facility is planned for September," he added.
The project is being carried out by the Bishkek city administration and involves the construction of a three-story building with an underground parking lot for 92 cars. The total area of the site is 0.4 hectares, while the area of the building itself is 2,490 square meters. The new cultural center will feature a cinema with 420 seats, classrooms for music and theater classes, a food court, and an exhibition hall with 330 seats.
Reference information: The "Chatyr-Kul" cinema was opened in 1967 in the Botanical residential area and had a capacity of 600 people. In 2010, the building was nationalized and transferred to the state youth theater "Uchur," but no major repairs were conducted, and in recent years the cinema was not operational. On November 5, 2025, the building burned down, after which the mayor instructed to consider the future of the site and expedite the process of creating a new cultural center.
