At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Labor, Health, Women's Affairs, and Social Issues on February 24, Deputy Nurjamal Torobekova stated the need for medical examinations for future spouses. This proposal was made in the context of discussing the current epidemiological situation with hepatitis in the country.

Deputy Minister of Health Bakytbek Kadyraliev reported that in 2024, there were 21,195 registered cases of diseases that could lead to liver cirrhosis and oncology. In 2025, the number of cases amounted to 8,555, including:

In 2026, 492 million 460 thousand soms have been allocated for the fight against hepatitis.

To reduce the number of infections, Torobekova proposed introducing mandatory medical examinations before marriage. According to her, this practice is already successfully implemented in Uzbekistan, which helps prevent one partner from infecting the other.

“For example, in Moscow, some young people get infected and then return to Kyrgyzstan and get married, while their parents know about it and do not say anything. As a result, the wife gets infected. It is also necessary to inform citizens and create accessible educational videos. The younger generation is often unaware of the ways infections can be transmitted. For instance, boys may use their father's razor, which can also lead to infection. It is important to strengthen control over migrants, as they may return with various diseases, including HIV,” the deputy added.
