The operation scheduled for March will be the first liver transplant in the history of Kyrgyzstan. This was announced by Bakytbek Kadyraliev, Deputy Minister of Health, at a meeting of the relevant committee of the Jogorku Kenesh.

According to Kadyraliev, the National Center named after Mambet Mamakeev has completed all necessary preparations for the operation and ensured the availability of the required equipment. Russian specialists will participate in the procedure.

The Deputy Minister also noted that there is currently no precise information on the number of patients in need of a liver transplant.

“At the moment, there is no clear registry, but we are actively working on creating a unified database to account for cases of liver and kidney transplants,” he added.

Kadyraliev emphasized that patients with hepatitis B and C will be the first candidates for the operation in the future. According to official data, last year there were 75 registered cases of hepatitis B, 56 cases of hepatitis C, and 9 cases of hepatitis D.

Statistics show that as of January 1, 2026, the number of citizens of Kyrgyzstan who have undergone liver transplant surgery amounted to 578 people.
Liver transplantation is a complex high-tech procedure that involves replacing the affected organ with a donor liver (either fully or partially). The operation is performed in cases of cirrhosis, acute liver failure, certain forms of cancer, and hereditary diseases.

The duration of the operation averages from 6 to 12 hours and requires the participation of a qualified surgical team.

In major medical institutions, the survival rate after transplantation reaches 85–90 percent within a year.
