Erzurum has been named the tourist capital of 2025 by the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and was also recognized as the first European Capital of Winter Sports by the Federation of European Capitals and Cities of Sport (ACES). These achievements have elevated the city's international status. Palandöken offers excellent slopes, modern infrastructure, and reliable snow cover, making it a world-class venue.
Among the main events of the winter season is the FIS Snowboard Cross World Cup stage, which will take place from March 6 to 8, 2026. This is the second competition of such scale on the slopes of Palandöken. About 300 athletes from 20 different countries are expected to participate, competing over three days and showcasing their speed and skill on the resort's challenging courses.
The winter season in Palandöken also includes cultural and entertainment events. The Frozen Festival, held since 2020, will take place from February 12 to 15, 2026, offering guests concerts and DJ sets from international artists, après-ski activities, evening programs, as well as competitions in skiing and snowboarding, yoga sessions, ice sculpture creation, and themed workshops.
In addition to winter sports, Erzurum offers a wealth of cultural and natural attractions. Popular sites include the Tortum Waterfall, the "Narman Fairy Chimneys," the Seven Lakes near İspir, historical monuments such as the Ulu Mosque, the two-minaret Yakutiye Medrese, and the Üç Kümbetler complex, as well as the Aziziye and Mecidiye bastions with magnificent views of the city. Don’t forget to try local delicacies such as cağ kebabı and the traditional dessert kadayıf dolması.
The organization of international competitions and festivals makes Erzurum more attractive as a winter tourism center and strengthens its reputation as one of the leading ski destinations in the region.
