The Ministry of Health updates the rules for protecting the country from quarantine infections. Why is this necessary?
It is worth noting that the updated document was brought up for discussion.
"After the COVID-19 pandemic, which swept the world in 2020, we are reviewing the rules regarding the strengthening of measures at quarantine points. The current epidemiological situation, as well as the registration of new diseases such as the coronavirus, present us with new challenges that require comprehensive interaction between various sanitary protection services. This concerns not only the Ministry of Health but also other agencies," Sydygaliev noted.
According to the deputy minister, deficiencies in the existing system were identified during the pandemic, highlighting the need to prepare both the Ministry of Health and the entire population for emergencies. He also added that measures to detect possible importation of infections, including the Nipah virus, have been strengthened at quarantine points in airports and at road checkpoints. "We have sensitive devices for remote temperature measurement. Thanks to the support of donors and the state, we have updated the equipment at quarantine points and plan to conduct training exercises for all ministries working at these points," he added.
Sydygaliev emphasized that new, yet-to-be-studied infections continue to emerge, requiring constant monitoring. "Medicine is evolving, and we must update our documents," he noted.
He also reminded about the existing action algorithm for aircraft crews and train conductors in the event of an infectious disease being detected among passengers. "If, for example, a sick person is found on a flight from India, the flight attendant must immediately report to the airport in Bishkek. The airport has a sanitary-quarantine point with isolation facilities for such cases, where patients will be immediately isolated and an ambulance called," explained the deputy head of the Ministry of Health.
Kubanychbek Bekturdiyev, head of the epidemiology department, added that infections can enter the country through various means, primarily through people, as well as through goods, birds, and animals. "With the cancellation of visa regimes in a number of countries and the increase in tourist flows, we are very concerned about the possibility of new diseases similar to COVID-19 emerging. For example, after the outbreak of the Nipah virus in India in early January, we were very worried about its possible importation. Currently, pandemics of influenza and cholera continue worldwide, and given the current situation, we are facing new challenges," he noted.
The document includes a comprehensive plan aimed at preparing for the possible importation of infections and implementing anti-epidemic measures.
