The quarry in the 12th microdistrict of Bishkek is being filled and expanded

What changes await this area: residential complexes or underground parking lots?

Work on filling the quarry in the 12th microdistrict of Bishkek continues, as reported by local residents to Vesti.kg.

According to them, trucks are working around the clock, filling the quarry with earth.

“If the quarry is completely filled, shouldn’t the ground be compacted to avoid house collapses?” residents are asking.

If construction is inevitable, they suggest considering the possibility of creating underground garages in this area.

Recall that residents previously reported plans to build residential buildings on the site of a large quarry in the southern part of the capital.

The plan is to use soil from nearby hills for the filling.

Local residents express concerns about possible negative consequences, both in terms of urban development and ecology.

The quarry in the 12th microdistrict of Bishkek (near Aaly Tokombaev Street) is a significant industrial site that has been developed since 1968 for the extraction of sand, gravel, and sand-gravel mixtures. In October 2023, an area of over 60 hectares was returned to the state, and the city administration intends to use it for the modernization of road infrastructure.

The new Eastern bypass road (from 16 to 32 km) will run through the southern part of the quarry, which will help alleviate traffic from the Kant side. The project includes a four-lane highway from the southern microdistricts (Zhuikeeva-Pudovkina) through Kok-Zhar and Kara-Zhyga to Novopokrovka, with an elevated bridge and five interchanges. Work is set to begin at the end of 2025.

Additionally, last year it became known about plans to demolish garages located in close proximity to the quarries.
