In Kyrgyzstan, the cultivation of industrial hemp may be permitted. This proposal was made by Deputy Dastan Bekeshev on his Telegram channel, specifying that the relevant bill will be discussed at today's session of the Jogorku Kenesh.

Bekeshev emphasized that under the new bill, individuals and legal entities will be granted the right to cultivate medicinal plants such as sage and aconite on arable land.

“Allowing the cultivation of industrial hemp, as well as some other plants, could be implemented under strict state control. This is necessary for the development of our pharmaceutical production, including narcotic substances used in medicine. This topic requires serious discussion, as many people need such medications to alleviate chronic pain,” noted the deputy.

Currently, legislation in Kyrgyzstan prohibits the cultivation of medicinal plants on agricultural land. This creates certain legal barriers to the development of this sector, according to information from the Ministry of Water Management and Agriculture.

The Ministry proposes to expand the list of medicinal plants to include crops such as valerian, calendula, sage, saffron, ferula, aconite, arnebia, rhodiola rosea, licorice, sea buckthorn, rosehip, barberry, thyme, chamomile, and St. John's wort.
