The Jogorku Kenesh will consider a bill on Wednesday allowing farmers to grow medicinal plants on agricultural land.
The development of this regulatory act is being carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture. The amendments were submitted to the parliament on January 22.
As noted in the ministry's explanation, there is currently a ban on the cultivation of medicinal crops on agricultural land. The Ministry of Agriculture proposes to include such crops as valerian, calendula, sage, saffron, ferula, aconite, arnebia, rhodiola rosea, licorice, sea buckthorn, rosehip, barberry, thyme, and chamomile, as well as St. John's wort in the category of "medicinal plants".
Additionally, it is proposed to include the cultivation of these plants in the list of key areas for state support for agriculture.
