The Ministry of Agriculture is considering the possibility of allowing farmers to cultivate medicinal plants on agricultural land. To this end, the Cabinet of Ministers presented a draft law for discussion in the Jogorku Kenesh on January 22.

In the explanatory note to this draft law, the Ministry of Agriculture clarifies that according to current legislation, medicinal plants are not classified as agricultural crops, which limits their cultivation on agricultural lands.

According to the ministry, the cultivation of such plants could bring significant economic benefits, which is why it is proposed to add them to the list of agricultural crops.

The draft law suggests including plants such as valerian, calendula, sage, saffron, ferula, aconite, arnebia, rhodiola rosea, licorice, sea buckthorn, rose hip, barberry, thyme, and chamomile in this list.

According to the work calendar plan, the Jogorku Kenesh plans to consider the proposed changes in February 2026, as indicated on the official website of the parliament.
