In the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, contractors will be responsible for eliminating defects on recently repaired roads. This was stated by Abdyzhaparkul Janbolotov, Deputy Director of the Department of Transport and Development of Road Transport Infrastructure of the City Hall, in an interview on Birinchi Radio.
“There is a certain nuance. We often discuss that contractors are to blame for the problems that arise. Indeed, their fault is present. Our contracts clearly state that any shortcomings or defects must be corrected at the contractor's expense. Although the contractor may be at fault, the department is primarily responsible for the quality of the accepted roads,” Janbolotov noted.
According to the official, a specialized laboratory operates in the municipality, and each project is controlled by licensed technical supervision. He added: “Not only the quality of the asphalt is checked, but also all road works that we plan, including the foundation and the installation of curbs. The strength of bridges and other structures is also monitored. Defects can indeed arise, but contractors are obliged to eliminate them,” he reported.
Furthermore, Janbolotov mentioned that the warranty period for the completed work has been legally increased to three years, whereas it previously was only one year. If defects are discovered during this time, contractors will be required to correct them at their own expense.
