A draft law aimed at increasing the number of conscripts is being discussed in the Jogorku Kenesh


At a meeting of the committee on international affairs, defense, security, and migration of the Jogorku Kenesh, a new draft law is being considered that proposes an increase in contributions for alternative service and mobilization reserves.

Deputy Medina Kairylbekova, raising an important issue, emphasized the multiethnicity of the population of Kyrgyzstan and inquired about how many representatives of national minorities are serving in the military.

The first deputy minister of defense, Talaybek Sharshiev, responded to her inquiry, stating that the ministry has the relevant statistics and that a data analysis was recently conducted. He added that some of the information is classified. Sharshiev emphasized that the department is making efforts to increase the number of citizens serving each year.

In conclusion of the discussion, Deputy Kairylbekova noted that she does not yet see significant representation of other nationalities in the armed forces.
