A city council deputy proposed to set quarterly salaries in Bishkek.
As Ergeshov noted, for three years after the annexation of the districts, not a single neighborhood leader has been elected.
“There are previously elected activists who work without pay. These people play a key role in the life of the districts. Neighborhood leaders are the voice of the people, conveying information to the municipal territorial units, akimats, and deputies. The issue of elections and salaries should have been resolved last year. They cannot work on a voluntary basis indefinitely,” he added.
Representatives of the city administration reported that a neighborhood scheme is currently being developed. “After it is completed, we will hold elections and determine salaries. It is important to finish the scheme first,” noted one of the officials.
Ergeshov also emphasized that the deputies will soon be considering the local budget, and action needs to be taken more quickly.
“Have you submitted a request for neighborhood leaders? If not, they will remain without salaries again. The districts will fall into disrepair. We need to instruct to include a project for the election and funding of neighborhood leaders in the budget,” the deputy concluded.
