Torobaev: Irrigation water for farmers will be supplied through electronic meters
According to him, there are 498 reservoirs in Kyrgyzstan with a design capacity of 1 billion 757 million cubic meters, but currently, they contain only 884 million cubic meters of water, which is 30-35% less than in 2025.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that this season, it is planned to sow 1 million 850 thousand hectares. To irrigate 885 thousand hectares of irrigated land, approximately 6 billion 300 million cubic meters of water will be required. Additionally, it is planned to create 139 new irrigation facilities.
Torobaev also added that by 2026, 1,500 electronic meters will be installed to supply water to farmers.
He mentioned that drip irrigation will be implemented on 20 thousand hectares, of which about 6 hectares will be provided by the state, while the rest will be covered by farmers.
According to the minister, to achieve a good wheat yield, 1,200 cubic meters of water is required per hectare, and farmers themselves have expressed a desire to work according to the established volumes.
