At the World Government Summit in Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev reported on the climate risks threatening Lake Issyk-Kul. According to the Ministry of Water Management, he emphasized the importance of this unique ecosystem for the region.

According to Torobaev, Issyk-Kul is not only a significant natural resource for Kyrgyzstan but also an important socio-economic asset. However, over the past decades, the lake has fallen victim to severe climate changes.

He also noted that the water level in Issyk-Kul has decreased by almost 14 meters since the mid-19th century, and the total volume has reduced by approximately 85 billion cubic meters. This is linked to a decrease in the number of rivers flowing into the lake, which is due to glacier melting, changes in the hydrological regime, and increased water consumption.

Torobaev warned that further declines in water levels could lead to significant ecological and socio-economic consequences, threatening biodiversity, tourism potential, and the well-being of the local population.

The Kyrgyz Republic views the preservation of Issyk-Kul as an important aspect of the global agenda on climate and water resources, advocating for a shift towards long-term, scientifically grounded, and investment-oriented solutions.

In this regard, the minister called on the international community to strengthen partnerships for sustainable water resource management and to integrate issues of climate change, water resources, and ecosystems, as well as to support joint initiatives for the preservation of unique natural sites.

Kyrgyzstan is ready to become a reliable partner in the protection of water ecosystems and ensuring a sustainable future in the field of water supply.
