During his speech at the Sustainable Impact Forum, held as part of the World Government Summit in Dubai, Bakyt Torobaev, who serves as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry, discussed the negative consequences of climate change for Lake Issyk-Kul. This information was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources.

According to Torobaev, Issyk-Kul is a "unique ecosystem of regional significance and an important socio-economic and natural resource of the Kyrgyz Republic."

However, in recent decades, the lake has faced serious climate-related challenges.

The minister reported that since the mid-19th century, the water level in Issyk-Kul has decreased by almost 14 meters, and the total water volume has decreased by approximately 85 billion cubic meters.

The number of rivers flowing into this lake has also significantly decreased, which is associated with glacier melting, changes in the hydrological regime, and increased water consumption.

Torobaev emphasized that for Kyrgyzstan, the preservation of Lake Issyk-Kul is part of the global agenda on climate and water resources. He called for a transition from short-term solutions to long-term, science-based, and investment-driven approaches.

In conclusion of his speech, the minister urged the international community to expand partnerships in sustainable water resource management, integrate climate and ecosystem issues, and support joint initiatives aimed at protecting unique natural sites.
