Torobaev's speech at the Global Summit on Sustainable Development Goals
At the Global Summit, Deputy Prime Minister Bakyt Torobaev emphasized that mountain ecosystems are among the most vulnerable to climate change. This information was disseminated by the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers.
According to the deputy chair, glacier melting, changes in precipitation patterns, and an increase in extreme weather events create long-term risks for water resources, agriculture, and energy not only in Central Asia but also beyond its borders.
He proposed to consider mountain countries and regions as special zones for sustainable development, granting them priority access to climate financing, adaptation technologies, and monitoring systems.
Bakyt Torobaev noted that the stability of mountainous areas has a direct impact on the water and food security of millions of people, which requires the development of comprehensive and coordinated solutions at the international level.
