At the Global Summit on Sustainable Development Goals, the Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev called for the recognition of mountain regions as key players in international climate policy.

Torobaev emphasized the importance of focusing on mountain ecosystems, which, according to him, are among the most vulnerable to climate change. He noted that factors such as glacier melting, changes in precipitation patterns, and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events pose long-term threats to water resources, agriculture, and energy both in Central Asia and beyond.

Kyrgyzstan also proposed considering mountain countries and regions as special zones for sustainable development, granting them priority access to climate financing, adaptation technologies, and monitoring systems.

According to Bakyt Torobaev, the stability of mountain territories directly impacts the water and food security of millions of people, necessitating the development of systematic and coordinated international solutions.
