The Ministry of Economic Development does not plan to reinstate payment for service in cafes and restaurants
Deputy Minister of Economy Benazir Nurlanova spoke about a recent meeting with the HoReCa association and noted that business owners plan to offer discounts of up to 10 percent on delivery and takeout.
Deputy Janibek Abirov questioned the advisability of abolishing the service charge, which, in his opinion, led to price increases of 20-22 percent instead of the expected 10-15.
Director of the Antimonopoly Regulation Service Jenaly Orozbaev added that some establishments raised prices by 23 percent, while in others, the increase was only 4 percent.
Janibek Abirov urged the Ministry of Economy to acknowledge its mistake, emphasizing that consumers managed well with payments when the service charge was in effect. He asked the deputy minister if there are plans to reinstate the service charge percentage.
In response, Benazir Nurlanova stated that the Ministry of Economy and Commerce currently has no intention of considering this issue.
As of January 1, 2026, the 15 percent fee added to the cost of dishes in public catering establishments was abolished. This decision was made at the direction of the presidential administration in response to numerous consumer complaints.
