The deputy inquired why representatives of other nations do not join the army in the Kyrgyz Republic.
At a recent meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Finance, Budget, and Entrepreneurship Development, Deputy Kamila Talieva drew attention to the problem related to military service. She asked representatives of the Ministry of Defense why the majority of the army consists of citizens of the titular nation.
Talieva emphasized that there are about 80 different ethnic groups living in Kyrgyzstan.
“Every citizen of Kyrgyzstan should have the opportunity to serve in the army. Do you have data on why representatives of other nations do not enlist?” she noted.
In response, First Deputy Minister of Defense Talaybek Sharshiev explained that there are specific requirements for joining military service.
“For example, for the National Guard, the minimum height must be 180 cm, and the family must be complete. There are also rules regarding enlistment after the 9th grade. Some representatives of ethnic groups do not even finish the 6th grade, which complicates their understanding of military regulations,” he added.
In conclusion, Deputy Talieva requested written data on the number of servicemen from other nationalities.
