“The main goal of introducing new requirements is to ensure quality training for drivers. A person who has acquired the necessary knowledge poses no danger to themselves or to other road users. It is precisely the untrained drivers, who buy licenses without knowing the rules, that cause the deaths of hundreds of people every year!” Orunbekov noted in his Facebook post.
He also explained how training in driving schools will be organized according to the new conditions.
“Training over ten months will include theoretical and practical classes. Many people think that they will have to attend classes daily from early morning until late evening. In practice, however, classes will be held 2-3 times a week for 2-3 hours, with the possibility of completing part of the course in an online format,” he added.
The 10-month period covers both theory and practice. It is important to understand that two and a half months is insufficient for a deep understanding of the material. Driving is not just the ability to start moving. Unfortunately, many who have trained for only two and a half months do not know the traffic rules. The new curriculum will include classes on ethics and psychological preparation. Due to rudeness and intolerance on the roads, hundreds of conflicts occur daily. We witness drivers cutting each other off, sticking their heads out of cars, and arguing every day. That is why ethical issues will be included in the training course,” Orunbekov continued.
He also provided examples from other countries: in states such as Germany, Sweden, and Norway, the training period in driving schools ranges from 6 to 12 months, while in the UK and Australia, obtaining a driver's license can take 1.5 to 2 years.
According to Orunbekov, Kyrgyzstan ranks among the leading countries in terms of fatal outcomes in traffic accidents. In 2025, 8,456 accidents were recorded, resulting in 900 deaths and 12,169 injuries.
