At the meeting held on January 28, the speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, expressed his opinion regarding the decision of the committee on constitutional legislation to disapprove the national anthem projects.

“We carefully reviewed the texts and music, and unfortunately, none of the proposals meet the necessary standards. Therefore, we decided to reject them in order to allow for further development of the works. Our task is not to change the current anthem, but to ensure that it can be sung by everyone, from children to the elderly. It is important that the text and music are of high quality,” he noted.

The speaker also added that the projects submitted for the competition sound like marches. “Such a style is not suitable for an anthem, as not everyone will be able to perform it. It should be more free-flowing, like, for example, ‘Kyrgyz Jeri’ or ‘Mekenim Meykin’. We must distance ourselves from the Soviet style. There’s no need to torture ourselves; let it be a piece that can be sung everywhere, not just at official events. The competition for a new anthem continues, and prizes are provided for composers,” he addressed the participants of the competition.
