The police have initiated an investigation into the case of Asel Azamatova
According to the press service of the Bishkek City Police Department, Asel Azamatova filed a written statement requesting measures against her ex-husband — the deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Eldar Sulaymanov. The statement indicates that for a long time he has been exerting psychological pressure on her, and there have also been instances of physical violence.
As clarified by the press service, this incident has been registered, and a preliminary investigation is currently underway. As part of these actions, a protection order has been issued, and all necessary verification activities are under the control of the Moscow police.
Asel Azamatova previously posted on social media, where she spoke about the systematic violence from her deputy husband and the inaction of law enforcement agencies in response to her appeals. After that, she was summoned to the Bishkek City Police Department to clarify the details of her previous statements.
As explained by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, if the facts of violence are confirmed, the investigative authorities are obliged to initiate a criminal case and forward the materials to the prosecutor's office. The question of holding the deputy accountable can only be considered after obtaining the consent of the Jogorku Kenesh, as he has parliamentary immunity.
