Elvira Surabaldiyeva, a deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh, called for not relocating the specialized school to avoid complicating life for the children.

At a meeting held on January 14, she announced plans to move the boarding school for visually impaired and blind children from the capital to the village of Vorontsovka.

There are only two such schools in Kyrgyzstan: one is located in Bishkek, and the other in Osh. The capital's school has 220 students, about 100 of whom are from other regions.

Surabaldiyeva noted that both parents and teachers are concerned about the possibility of the relocation. She emphasized that Vorontsovka is quite far away, and public transport to that area is irregular, which disregards the needs of children with visual impairments.

“This school cannot be moved. Children with vision problems take a long time to get used to their route—they memorize landmarks and paths. If the school is relocated, they will have to learn to navigate and remember a new route all over again,” the deputy added.

Surabaldiyeva urged the authorities to keep the school in its current location and not to create additional difficulties for children with special educational needs.
