Deputy: The whole family suffers from violence, but a protection order is only issued to the woman

At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, held on January 15, Deputy Gulsharkan Kultaeva emphasized that protection orders often have only a symbolic nature and raised a question about the mechanisms for their enforcement.

She noted that the number of cases of domestic violence is increasing, and although victims are issued protection orders, in practice they often remain just a formality. "What work is being done for their enforcement? Why doesn't the protection extend to all family members?" she inquired.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Erkebek Ashirkhodzhaev agreed that the issue of domestic violence is becoming increasingly relevant in Kyrgyzstan. He added that legislation has tightened penalties for violence against women and children, and new mechanisms for the effective application of protection orders are currently being developed.

Kultaeva also asked whether there are accountability measures for officials who do not respond appropriately to such incidents.

Ashirkhodzhaev confirmed that if violations or negligence by employees are identified, they will be held accountable. "Every case of domestic violence is under control," he added.

In conclusion, Kultaeva requested data on the statistics of domestic violence cases over the past six months.
