Will Moscow Street Become Pedestrian? Response from the Bishkek City Hall

At a recent public hearing dedicated to the master plan for the development of Bishkek until 2050, city residents proposed transforming Moscow and Pushkin streets into pedestrian zones. The city hall's response to this initiative has been published.

City hall noted that Moscow Street has the status of a citywide arterial road and operates with one-way traffic. It plays an important role in the city's transportation system, interacting with Toktogul Street.

“If Moscow Street becomes pedestrian-only, it could negatively impact the traffic situation in the city center, as traffic flows would be redistributed, increasing the load on neighboring streets. However, the creation of a pedestrian zone on Pushkin Street is possible. This option can be explored, subject to further coordination and decision-making by local authorities,” the official statement said.
