At a recent briefing, psychiatrist Boris Li from the Family Medicine Center No. 6 shared lifestyle tips that can help reduce the chances of developing mental disorders and support psycho-emotional well-being.
Boris Li noted that not all aspects affecting mental health are under a person's control. According to the biopsychosocial model, some biological factors require medical intervention prescribed by a doctor. Social conditions, such as unemployment, low income, and domestic violence, can also negatively impact mental health and exacerbate existing disorders, creating a vicious cycle.
The psychiatrist emphasized that reducing the time spent reading negative information online can have a positive effect. According to WHO, by 2025 it became clear that negative messages on social media significantly affect people's mental states. While we cannot control external events, many of us suffer from anxiety due to news that we cannot change.
“There is a therapeutic method known as behavioral activation. I believe that simply going to work is not enough to overcome depression. Behavioral activation involves hobbies, rekindling old interests, walking, and social interactions, which in turn positively affects mental health and can have a therapeutic effect,” Boris Li explained.
