In her work with children who have speech disorders, practicing speech therapist-defectologist Sezim Namazbekova shared her experience of the interaction between logopedics and ABA therapy. According to her, she works not only with children with autism but also with all those who have speech problems. However, the main group consists of children who, at the age of 5-6, lack sounds and syllables, despite having the ability to imitate and understand speech.
Namazbekova described how logopedics, in tandem with ABA therapy, influences the development of children. ABA therapy helps to form stable learning skills, motivation, and the ability to communicate, while the speech therapist can initiate the speech process: from sounds to words, and then continue the development of functional speech.
She emphasized the importance of motivation in the learning process. It is crucial to determine what specifically attracts the child—this can be various toys or activities.
“For example, I had a boy who loved stickers of different sizes and colors. Currently, I have a girl who is fascinated by fairies, and I constantly print glossy pictures for her, mainly in yellow-green shades. This creates motivation, and the child begins to actively participate in the lessons. Over time, she engages not only for the stickers but also out of her own desire and interest,” Namazbekova shared.
In the specialist's opinion, the main task is to awaken the child's interest in the lessons, showing that they bring joy and are useful in everyday life.
