Mohjtaba Khamenei elected as the Supreme Leader of Iran

Mohjtaba Khamenei, who is a mid-level cleric, was elected by 88 members of the Assembly of Experts, responsible for appointing the Supreme Leader.

For a long time, he was considered a possible successor to his father, who was killed in the attacks on Tehran on February 28. He has close ties with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which strengthens his position in Iranian politics.
